This particular model is a so-called fantasy-livery, designed purely for the scale model world. The Fly Car Model brand created this car at the time as a special promotional gift and collector item in honor of the 20th anniversary of the German wholesaler and racetrack specialist H+T Motor Racing. The name 'Anna Petri' on the car refers to a person within (or closely associated with) that company, and is therefore not a true professional car racer. What real Corvette C5-R racing cars did exist? Although this particular design is fictional, the Chevrolet Corvette C5-R itself was a legendary and highly successful real racing car. The real factory cars: The real C5-R was built by Pratt & Miller for General Motors and dominated the endurance racing between 1999 and 2004. The iconic colors: The real factory cars hardly ever drove in black and gold. They started in 1999 with a silver/black 'GM Goodwrench' livery and switched to the world-famous, bright yellow Corvette Racing house color in 2000. Big successes: The real cars won legendary races like the 24 Hours of Le Mans (in their class), the 24 Hours of Daytona and the 12 Hours of Sebring. Known drivers: Instead of Anna Petri, the real C5-R was driven by legends from motorsport, such as Ron Fellows, Johnny O'Connell, Oliver Gavin, Andy Pilgrim and even pop star Dale Earnhardt Jr. during the 24 Hours of Daytona. In addition to this fantasy version, Fly Car Model also released dozens of racetrack cars that were exactly based on the real yellow and silver Corvettes that drove at Le Mans and in the American Le Mans Series (ALMS).

The Chevrolet Corvette C5-R #64, which competed in the official test day for the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2004, is an iconic car from the history of Corvette Racing. During the regular races, the car drove in the signature "Millennium Yellow", but for the pre-test sessions at the Circuit de la Sarthe, a unique, unsponsored black or partly bare test-livery was used. This particular test version has become particularly popular among collectors thanks to detailed 1:32 slotcars from brands such as Fly Car Model. The real car The Drivers: Auto #64 was piloted during the Le Mans weekend in 2004 by the star team Olivier Beretta, Oliver Gavin and Jan Magnussen. The Result: After the test sessions, this car dominated the race and won the GTS class during the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2004. The sister car (#63) finished second, with Corvette taking a perfect 1-2 victory. Technical Upgrades: The 2004 model (chassis C5R-010) was more than 50 kg lighter than its predecessors, partly due to the introduction of a polycarbonate windscreen and a lighter battery. As a result, the car per lap was no less than six seconds faster at Le Mans compared to the qualifying times of the year before. Farewell: 2004 was the very last season for the legendary C5-R factory cars, after which they were succeeded by the C6 in 2005. The Fly Car Model slotcar from the Chevrolet Corvette C5-R is a beloved scale model among collectors and slotcar racers due to its high level of detail. Two main variants of the 2004 Le Mans Corvette have been released by Fly on scale 1:32: Fly A132 (Ref. 88115) – Corvette C5-R Le Mans 2004 #64: This is the final race version. The model wears the iconic, yellow "Millennium Yellow" factory color with the well-known Compuware sponsorship and start number 64. This is the car with which Beretta, Gavin and Magnussen won the GTS class. Fly E121 – Corvette C5-R Test Car: This is the specific test version (as used during the Le Mans pre-tests or other test meetings). This version is often partly unsponsored or executed as a "Mini Auto Special" with alternative test stickering. Technical features of the Fly model Scale: 1:32. Drive: Equipped with a front-mounted S-Can engine (the engine is in the front, just like with the real car) and a magnet for extra road holding on the track. Compatibility: These are analog slotcars that run directly at 1:32 lanes such as Scalextric, Ninco and Carrera Evolution. With an FT-Slottechnik or Carrera decoder you can also convert them to digital. Focus for riders: Older Fly models are known to allow the motorcycle gear (motor trickle) to show a hairline crack over time due to plastic dehydration. For collectors in the display case, this does not matter, but if you want to race with it, this gear sometimes has to be replaced by a brass variant. The Fly Car Model Chevrolet Corvette C5-R slotcar uses a specific, unique configuration that gives the car its own driving character. The engine is a standard Mabuchi type S-Can short-tin engine. Technical engine specifications Engine type: Mabuchi type "S-Can" (FC130). Speed (RPM): 18,000 RPM at a standard voltage of 12 Volts. Torque: Approximately 80 g/cm. Transmission: Standard equipped with a 9-tooth motor ritzel (pinion) on a 27-tooth crown gear (gear) on the rear axle. The Unique Layout: Front-Engine Inline The engine is located at the Fly Corvette in the front of the car (Front Mounted / Inline Front). A long cardana shaft (drive shaft) runs through the interior of the car to the rear axle to drive the wheels. Fly chose to mimic the weight distribution of the real Corvette (which the engine also has in front) as true to nature as possible. Driving Features & Tuning Tips Behavior on the track: By laying the engine in the front, the car has a relatively light rear. Without the included magnet, the car tends to break out (drift) quickly in the curves. The "Fly problem": The axleis held in place by plastic bearings. With intensive use, these bearings or the ash can start to vibrate. Racers often replace the plastic bearings with brass or bronze bearings for a much quieter and smoother run. Gear breakage: As mentioned earlier, the original plastic 9t motorcycle pinion can burst over time due to dehydration. An upgrade to a brass 9-tooth gear fixes this permanently.
