Pirro beside the cockpit. The Audi R8 #78 (often referred to as the R8R or simply the new R8 LMP) was one of the most dominant racing cars during the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) season of 2000. Deployed by the Audi Sport North America factory team and prepared by Joest Racing, this particular car with starting number 78 played a crucial role in obtaining the driver and constructors title for Audi. Seasonal highlight: The car debuted impressively during the season opener by winning the 12 Hours of Sebring. n.78 took the absolute victory here. 24 Heures du Mans Championship: Thanks to the constant podium spots and victories of the #78 and his sister car (#77), Audi convincingly managed to win the ALMS title that year. Specifications: The car was powered by a 3.6-litre V8 Twin-Turbo engine that produced around 610 hp at the time.
