Listed in new condition, this is a 1:32 analog Fly slot car shown in its clear case. The BMW 3.5 CSL #42 is a legendary racing car that competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1976. The car was deployed by the team of BMW Motorsport / Alpina-Faltz and competed in the brutal Group 5 class. Below you will find the most important details about this iconic racer: Results & Specifications (Le Mans 1976) Category Details Drivers Harald Grohs (DE) , Sam Posey (US) 🇺🇸, Hughes de Fierlant (BE) Class Group 5 (Special Production Cars) Classification 10th place general and 4th in the Group 5 class Car & Motor BMW E9 CSL with a 3.5-liter six-in-line broad builder Livery / Sponsor Characterized by a distinctive black base with red and blue accents, sponsored by the French cigarette brand Gitanes (often referred to as the Alpina-Gitanes livery). Details of the Car Survivor: The 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1976 was a wear and tear for the factory BMWs. Car #42 was the only official Group 5 CSL to reach the finish line. For example, the sister car (#43 with Dieter Quester) fell out in the 12th hour due to a motorcycle fire. Appearance: In accordance with the Group 5 regulations, the car had extremely widened wheel arches and the characteristic giant rear wing (which gave the CSL the nickname "Batmobile"). Also typical were the side-pipe outlets that stuck out on the side. Modeling & Slotcars Because of the unique black Gitanes-livery, the #42 is a very popular collectible: Slotcars (1:32): Released by brands such as Fly Slot Cars (under reference A683) and more recently by Racer Sideways. Diecast & Resin Models (1:43): High-quality miniatures have been produced by Spark Models (also featured in the Hachette Le Mans series) and Atlas.
