The Ferrari 166/212 MM #617 refers to the legendary Ferrari 166 MM/212 Export "Uovo" (the Egg) with starting number #617, which participated in the 1952 Mille Miglia. The car was driven by the drivers Guido Mancini and Adriano Ercolani during this iconic Italian road race.
Background of the "Uovo"
Unique Design: The car (chassis number 024MB) started his life as a regular Ferrari 166 MM Touring Barchetta. After a severe crash in 1950, the chassis was completely rebuilt. Count Giannino Marzotto commissioned the famous sculptor Franco Reggiani and bodybuilder Carrozzeria Fontana to design a radical, aerodynamic bodywork. Due to the strikingly round, egg-shaped lines, the car was soon nicknamed "l'Uovo."
Hybrid Power Source: To make the car even faster, the original 2.0-litre engine was replaced by a more powerful 2.6-liter V12 engine from a Ferrari 212 Export.
The Mille Miglia of 1952
During the 1952 edition, the car appeared at the start with the race number 617 (which at the time reflected the start time: 6:17 hours). Although the car was very competitive due to its light weight and streamlined shape, Mancini and Ercolani unfortunately had to stop the battle early due to a mechanical failure (avería).
