Specifications & Features

Model: Chevrolet Camaro SS396 Super Stocker 2
System: Carrera Evolution (Analogue, but digital to make with a separate decoder)
Scale: 1:32
Engine: E200 engine

The Carrera Evolution Chevrolet Camaro SS 396 SCCA '73 (article number 25712) is a sought-after analog slotcar model on a scale of 1:32. This classic racetrack car was released by Carrera in 2003 and is based on the iconic American muscle car that participated in the SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) races.

Key features and specifications:

Appearance: Made in a striking yellow-black color scheme with the starting number 64 and various authentic sponsor stickers (decals) on the body.

Unique detail: This specific Evolution model features a removable or openable bonnet, under which a detailed replica of the engine is visible.

Drive: Equipped with a standard inline Carrera E200 motor and dual neodymium magnets for a sturdy handling on the track.

Direction editor: Includes a handy reverse polarity switch (control button) on the bottom of the car to instantly turn the direction of travel on the racetrack.

Compatibility: Although it is an analog model, the car can drive at virtually all 1:32 and 1:24 analog orbits (such as Carrera Evolution or Scalextric). In addition, the body is extremely suitable for providing a digital decoder for Carrera Digital 132 afterwards.

Because the model has been out of production for a long time, it can mainly be found through collection sites, specialty stores or platforms.

The real-life counterpart to this specific slot car is the legendary 1969 Chevrolet Camaro SS 396, modified for SCCA vintage road racing.
While the standard factory Camaro SS 396 was primarily a street muscle car and drag-strip favorite, Carrera modeled this slot car after a customized version tailored to the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) historic racing regulations.

Engine & Performance

• The "396 Big Block": The factory model featured a 396 cubic-inch (6.5-liter) V8 big-block engine. Depending on the specific buyer's option package (like the L78), it pushed out between 325 and 375 horsepower straight from the dealership.
• Road Racing Reality: In actual 1969-era SCCA Trans-Am racing, massive big-block engines like the 396 were legally banned due to displacement limits (caps were set at 305 cu in / 5.0L). Aspiring road-racers had to opt for the nimble Z/28 package with its 302 cu in V8.
• The Vintage Loophole: The "SCCA '73" branding on this slot car points to the later A-Sedan or regional SCCA historic classes. By the early 1970s, privateer racers were stripping down heavily optioned street-legal SS 396 muscle cars, adding roll cages, stiffening the suspension, and entering them into local road racing championships.

Body Style

• The 1969 Silhouette: The car uses the heavily redesigned first-generation 1969 body style. This model year is famous for its flatter, more aggressive grille, deeply inset headlights, and muscular rear quarters.
• The Carrera Livery: The stark yellow-and-black paint job, aggressive chin spoiler, deleted standard street bumpers, and bold #64 racing numbers mirror the exact aesthetic of privateer American race cars campaigned across legendary tracks like Watkins Glen or Road America in the 1970s.
