Origin of the moulds: The moulds of this Jaguar XK120 were originally from the Sanwa brand, which released a kit in 1961. After Tokyo Plamo took over the company Sanwa in 1964, they released the kit again (a so-called rebox) under their own brand name. The bodywork itself was at the time a direct copy of an older model of the American brand Lindberg.
Drive: The kit was designed to be powered by a Mabuchi FT16 electric motor.
Domestic vs. Export versions:
In the regular Japanese editions, the engine had to be purchased separately, which was very common in Japan at the time.
With the special export versions (for the Western market) the Mabuchi engine was included in the box as standard, accompanied by an English-language manual.
Style: Historians at the Los Angeles Slot Car Museum describe the kit as "naive and charming." At the time, the focus was less on microscopic details and more on the fun and mechanical operation.
