The Scalextric Batmobile and Gotham Police Car are best known for Hornby's iconic, limited "Batman Begins" (2005) set. Because a traditional 1:32 scale version of the wide Batmobile (The Tumbler) would be too large for the standard tracks, Scalextric opted for a unique solution at the time: the vehicles are built on a 1:43 scale, but specially designed to run perfectly on the regular 1:32 Scalextric tracks.
Key Features & Sets
• Batman Begins Limited Edition Set (2005): This much-sought-after set includes the matt black Tumbler Batmobile along with a detailed Gotham City Police Department (GPD) Ford Crown Victoria police car.
• Track adjustment: Thanks to the compact 1:43 body width, both cars can effortlessly pass each other in sharp corners without 'swamping' each other off the track.
• Technique: The cars are equipped with Magnatraction (magnets in the chassis for extra handling) and the GPD police car features functional, flashing roof lights.
Other Iconic Scalextric Batmobiles (1:32 Scale)
If you look outside the police sets purely at the Batmobiles on a true 1:32 scale, Scalextric has released several legendary solo models over the years:
• 1966 TV Series Batmobile (C4175): The classic shiny black car based on the Lincoln Futura, including a detailed figure of Batman behind the wheel.
• 1989 Tim Burton Batmobile (C4492): The long, streamlined model with a recognizable 'steampunk' and art-deco design. This model is also Digital Plug Ready (DPR).
• The Batman 2022 Batmobile (C4442): Inspired by the modern muscle car-like look from the film with Robert Pattinson, equipped with working headlights and taillights.
