The 1965 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350-R #61B, driven by legendary driver Jerry Titus, is one of the most iconic and valuable competition Mustangs in American motorsport history. With this specific car (chassis 5R001) Titus won the SCCA B-Production Championship in 1965.
Because of this historical status, the car is a very popular subject for scale models and slotcars.
The Historical Story of Chassis 5R001
The Auto: This one was the second GT350 league model to complete Shelby American. Because the first chassis (5R002) served as a factory prototype and test mule, the #61B became the primary racer for the factory team.
The Success: Jerry Titus dominated the second part of the 1965 SCCA season. He took the title in Division 6 and secured the national SCCA B-Production Championship during the legendary final at Riverside.
The Meaning: Thanks in part to the performance of Titus, the GT350-R grew to become the ultimate Corvette killer on the American circuits. The vehicle is one of the most searched Shelbys in the world today
