The Ford Capri III Turbo Pocket Speed Group 5 with start number #2 in white-red Würth colours is one of the most iconic racing cars in motorsport history. Driven by the legendary German driver Klaus Ludwig, this car won the opening race of the Deutsche Rennsport Meisterschaft (DRM) season on the circuit of Zolder in 1981, which was the prelude to achieving the overall DRM championship in 1981. This particular historic racer is also world famous as a scale model among collectors, produced by brands such as Fly (Slotcars) and WERK83. The Race at Attic (1981) Result: Klaus Ludwig took 1st place in Division 2 during the season opener in Zolder. Dominance: Despite the rain, the Zakspeed Capri's left the competition far behind. Aluminium rear wheels and the wide Group 5 silhouette give it a focused balance of display detail and track purpose.There is no real "Calsonic Racing" Nissan Skyline Turbo Group 5. The real racing car behind this model is in reality the legendary Nissan Skyline RS Turbo "Super Silhouette" (KDR30) from 1982/1983. The blue Calsonic color scheme on the Group 5 variant is a purely fictional fantasy-livery designed specifically by slotcar manufacturer Sideways as a "What If?" tribute. However, the real, historic cars associated with both stories are equally spectacular. 1. The real Group 5 car: The Skyline "Super Silhouette" (KDR30) In the early 80's Nissan raced in the Japanese Super Silhouette Series (the Japanese counterpart of the extreme German DRM/Group 5 class). The Appearance: The real car never drove in blue at the time, but was wrapped in an equally iconic red-and-black color scheme with golden letters from sponsor Tomica. Extreme bodywork: Group 5 regulations required that the car still look somewhat like the street version (the DR30 Skyline RS) from above. Under the huge wheel arches and giant rear wing, however, was a pure tube frame that resembled a Formula car. The Flamethrower: Under the hood was a 2.1-liter LZ20BT four-cylinder turbo engine that delivered no less than 570 hp. Because the exhaust stuck directly out of the side of the bodywork, the car spit at every flame and banged when switching back. The legendary driver Masahiro Hasemi raced for numerous victories in 1982 and 1983. 2. Where does the "Calsonic" name come from? The blue Calsonic-livery only really became world famous in the Group A (JTCC) race class in the early 90’s. The real Calsonic Skyline: This was the 1990 Nissan Skyline GT-R (R32). Dominance: Driven by racing legend Kazuyoshi Hoshino, this bright blue car dominated the Japanese touring car championship so hard that he won all 29 consecutive races in which he started between 1990 and 1993. This gave the R32 GT-R its world-world terrifying nickname: "Godzilla."
