The Fly Car Model 99099 is a 1/32 scale slot car featuring an Alfa Romeo Giulia GTAm (often associated with the GTV line) from the Playboy Collection (Nº 12 / April 1993, Tonja, Red).

The real car behind that slot model is the legendary 1970 Alfa Romeo Giulia 1750 GTAm (and its later 2000 GTAm evolution). Built by Alfa Romeo’s official racing division, Autodelta, it was designed explicitly to dominate European touring car racing.

1. What Does "GTAm" Mean?
While "GTA" stands for Gran Turismo Alleggerita (Lightened Grand Tourer), the "m" in GTAm has two widely accepted meanings:
• Maggiorata (Enlarged): Referencing the expanded engine capacity.
• America: Because the racing cars were actually built using the steel-bodied 1750 GT Veloce (GTV) chassis originally destined for the US market.

2. How it Differs from a Standard GTV
Unlike the standard road-going GTVs of the era, the GTAm was a pure, stripped-out racing weapon. Autodelta built roughly 40 official factory units, though many privateers converted standard steel GTVs using Autodelta parts.
• The Body: While the regular 1600 GTA used full aluminum body panels, the GTAm kept the GTV's factory steel body but bolted on massive, iconic fiberglass riveted wheel-arch extensions to clear wide racing tires.
• The Engine: Autodelta took the 1,750cc engine and bored it out to 1,985 cc (2.0L). They equipped it with a specialized twin-spark cylinder head and an advanced SPICA or Lucas mechanical fuel injection system, bumping power from a standard 118 hp to roughly 220 to 240 horsepower.
• Weight Saving: The interior was stripped bare to the bone, swapping heavy glass for lightweight plastic windows. It weighed just around 920–940 kg (approx. 2,000 lbs).

3. Racing Legacy
The GTAm is revered because it won back-to-back European Touring Car Championships (ETCC) in 1970 (driven by Toine Hezemans) and 1971.
(Note: The heritage of this car is so massive that Alfa Romeo resurrected the "GTAm" badge in 2020 for a ultra-limited, 540-hp track version of the modern Giulia sedan)
