Ferrari 575 GTC & JMB Racing: Background & Legacy
Ferrari 575 GTC Overview
The Ferrari 575 GTC is a racing variant of the road-going 575M Maranello, developed by Ferrari’s Corse Clienti division with support from N‑Technology. It features a potent naturally aspirated 6.0‑litre V12 engine and primarily competed in the FIA GT Championship in the early 2000s
JMB Racing's Role
The French outfit JMB Racing campaigned the 575 GTC in several key FIA GT races. The car debuted spectacularly at Estoril in October 2003, where drivers Philipp Peter and Fabio Babini secured victory in the GT class—marking an emphatic maiden win
In early 2004, JMB Racing continued to compete with the 575 GTC. At Magny‑Cours, the #17 car was piloted by Karl Wendlinger, Toto Wolff, and Robert Lechner, finishing second in class alongside other teams campaigning 575 GTCs; another #18 entry with drivers like Ian Khan, Bert Longin, and Thomas Bleiner did not finish
At Brno later that year, an #18 JMB Racing entry placed 8th in GT class behind the winning entries
Chassis and Le Mans Participation
Ferrari built only 12 examples of the 575 GTC. One chassis, no. 2204, is noteworthy: raced extensively by JMB Racing in 2004, it also entered the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2005 as car number 69, driven by Stéphane Daoudi, Jean-René de Fournoux, and Jim Matthews. Unfortunately, the car retired due to engine failure during the eighth hour
